Some topics in this demo:
Inspiration (starting a painting), using references, theory and history, what is abstraction, personal expression and dealing with your inner critic, techniques for abstracting.
Jacqui will demonstrate how to use collaging, underpainting, and layering techniques as you bring more life to your paintings, and more enjoyment to your painting process. Discover techniques that lend themselves to increasing the tendency to experiment, loosen up, and be more expressive.

Here is our schedule for Artist Workshops for April 2012 at the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store. These are usually 4 to 5 hour long "Hands On" workshops with the instructors demonstrating and teaching various art techniques. You will be creating during the workshop as you learn. What is a glaze? Glazes of watercolor are thin transparent applications of paint typically laid over previous washes which have been allowed to dry completely. Kay also use a glazing technique on wet paper. The resulting image has tremendous depth and a radiant life like quality. Color and color intensity greatly affect a painting both in planning stages as well as during the creative process. Glazing is also used to establish light, atmosphere, dominance of color and temperature, and to build form, depth and values. This workshop will explore many ways to use and apply glazes.This process of selecting the colors, values, mixtures and temperatures before the actual paint application is a valuable tool in the whole painting process. It helps take the fear out of making some of these important decisions and paint with greater confidence and authority.

Che will show you different techniques to use when painting and drawing our DANIEL SMITH Watercolor Sticks, they add a new dimension to your paintings! The Sticks are great for sketching, for Plein Aire artists that want to carry light on their travels, and studio work, they are a very versatile medium. Since the sticks are chock full of pigment you can use them opaque, right off the stick or apply water and brush to use them like traditional pan watercolors. Don't like to see pencil lines in your work? Use them to draw directly on the paper and use a wet brush to dissolve the line and add beautiful washes. Use your imagination and find out how to use these innovative watercolors to create beautiful paintings!
