PAINT with DRAWING TOOLS: WATERCOLOR DRAWING ISN'T JUST WATER-SOLUBLE PENCILS
with JOAN WRIGHT

FREE HANDS-ON DEMO!

Bring your drawing tools to this demo. What do you use? pencils? charcoal? pastels? oil pastels? crayons? chalk? encaustics? ink? brush pens? ball-point pens? gel pens? sharpies? sticks? rocks? rusty metal? Bring the drawing tools you use.

One of the best things about watercolor is how some materials repel it and some materials play well with it. For example: Nickel Azo Yellow (PY 150) mixed with almost any other color fascinates us both with the lovely mixed colors we get and how it bullies or runs from its mixing partners. Even when using your tried and true playground pals of Nickel Azo, and you let the wet colors have their way, you will be surprised and delighted with results you never imagined.

This is the experience I have using different drawing tools with watercolor. Some dissolve and mix in watercolor, some just remain as you lay them down, some function as a resist and make interesting patches where watercolor refuses to be placed. I gasp with delight at the unexpected results of watercolor running from a resist material laid down in a gestural way.

Come play and get your artistic energy recharged. The world population clock (https://www.census.gov/popclock/) estimates our planet holds roughly 7,453,761,600 individuals right now. So there are at least that many options for using drawing tools and watercolors. I'm excited by the challenge!
