OBJECTIVES: Use watercolour in a non-traditional technique; explore using watercolour in different ways including staining, collaging, acrylic resist, and thick paint including tints. Day 1 will look at put to work the staining qualities of watercolour on thin handmade papers such as Japanese/Chinese/Indian papers, mulberry tissue and thin watercolour paper for a source of collaging materials. Day 2 will explore methods of creating beautiful surface textures with acrylic and thick watercolour paint using a print method completely reinterpreted.

Day 1:(approx. 6 hours). Show examples of my work which include collage and demonstrate/discus the methods used to produce the effects. Thin pieces of handmade paper. Rip into smallish pieces and colour approximately with watercolour. Using the colours you see in front of you from your subject matter do variations of tones of each area by painting the pieces of ripped paper. While these are drying draw the still life composition on an A3 (11.7" x 16.5") piece of paper (or larger if you prefer) with a soft pencil. Go over the lines with ink/dark watercolour then collage the pieces of coloured paper down into the appropriate area and re work with watercolour, ink & acrylic, pastel.

Day 2:(approx. 6 hours). Show examples work made using using acrylic and watercolour combinations. Discus and demonstrate the methods and creative potential of the method. You will experiment with the technique and develop the ideas being explored into a smallish piece of art. I will provide reference material for the 2 day workshop.
