The ILLUSTRATED JOURNAL with WATERCOLOR is the creative process of merging images and words together on a page. In the workshop we will explore fun and exciting ways to be creative with images, words and page design. Each day we’ll explore different drawing techniques, watercolor, and ink. Whether you’re interested in creating an illustrated journal for travel, gardening, daily life…amazing things happen when you put images and words together. You’ll come away from the workshop excited and inspired about your work! Best of all your illustrated journal will uniquely reflect your style and creative voice. Workshop participants will benefit from demonstrations, encouragement and individual help.

Sketchbook for Journal: My favorite is Stillman & Birn Beta. The sketchbooks come in a variety of sizes, bindings (stitch and coil), covers (hard and soft). Whatever sketchbook you choose, look for paper dense enough to handle washes without warping or bleeding through. It's your choice of size and brand.
Drawing Pad: Inexpensive paper for warm-ups and exercises. Size 9 x 12 or 11 x 14. White paper, not newsprint.
Pens: I like them all from cheap disposable to pricey fountain pens. I equally like water-soluble and water-proof in. Here are a few suggestions.
  * Waterproof:
    * Pitt by Faber-Castell
    * Micron
    * Copic
    * NO sharpies for sketching, please.
  * Water-Soluble:
    * Tombow pens have two tips:
        * one end has a stiff drawing nib
        * the opposite end has a brush tip
        * I use neutral colors: Burnt Sienna, Ochre, Gray, etc.
Pencils and Eraser
Miscellaneous Items: clips, paper towels for clean-up, water container, small spray bottle.
Reference Material: bring a variety of visual material that inspires you (photos, sketches, travel brochures, snap shots, etc . . .
Props: bring items to draw from and share (silk fruits and veggies, old books, tea cups, old kettles, glass bottles [mason jars, colored glass . . . ], hand tools [hammers, pliers, wrenches, screw drivers . . . ], and other fun junk).
ALSO: In addition to props, bring at least one personal object, something that has sentimental meaning (old pocket watches, baby shoes, jewlery, a pocket knife . . ). these objects are to be kept with you and not put out on the props table.
