Painting portraits is intimidating for many artists, and some never even attempt them. However portraits can be great fun once your fear of them is gone. In this workshop we will render our subjects using a combination of painting transparently and more opaquely. This approach helps you create vibrant portraits in a more painterly fashion… realistic, but loose at the same time.
We will discuss how to transfer your subject to your paper - you don’t have to be a great drawer to do this! Then we’ll discuss finding your best composition; starting with a transparent underpainting versus painting directly with more opaque pigments; then finishing your portraits with bright, opaque colors that bring your subjects to life.
Want to get over your fear of painting portraits? Join Molly for this very fun workshop! Look up for the link to the class supplies list. Helpful handouts and images will be available in class to work from.
