Art Nouveau is the March topic and it is my absolute favorite!
Along with a little history, some discussion of architecture, furniture and jewelry, we will talk about some of the art and artists prominent during the Art Nouveau Movement; Alphonse Mucha, Aubrey Beardsley, Gustav Klimt, Henri de Toulouse-Latrec and René Lalique to name a few. Art Nouveau, a highly decorative genre described themes of nature using sinuous curvilinear motions and designs. Plants, flowers and long flowing hair of women are motifs we associate with the style.
Back to lettering! In the March 18th Workshop, and my Monday evening classes, we will deconstruct the Art Nouveau style of lettering and learn a step by step process to recreate Art Nouveau alphabets. This process is valuable in creating your own Drop Cap, lettering in your journal, and other art that incorporates hand lettering.
