Encaustic is one of the "hottest" mediums being practiced today (pun intended). The March 4th DEMO shows the process you will use in the April 15th workshop to transfer you art - of ANY MEDIUM (PHOTOGRAPHY, PAINTING, SCULPTURE, PRINTMAKING) 2D and 3D! - into a beeswax image for a very beautifully different and highly salable presentation of your work.
Attending the demo will give you a big head start on preparing your art for the April 15th hands-on workshop where you will make your own transfers.
In the April 15th workshop, you will learn by doing. You will transfer you art of ANY MEDIUM into beeswax. This is not collaging your work, or embedding it into wax. Instead, you will float the art on the surface of the wax producing an incredible 3D effect that glows from behind once you remove the paper used in the transfer.
To learn the method of making a successful transfer, we will burnish and remove the paper to create the image floating on wax. First as a team, we will complete a panel. Then, with some experience under your belt, you will make your own panel of your own work. A materials fee wil provide the beeswax, the panels and everything you need.
MATERIALS, PROCEDURES AND PROCESS:
*1* Bring a digital version of your art - a photograph or a scan
*NOTE* Must be a LASER (not InkJet) print, like a photocopy from any copy shop.
*2* the digital image must be sized either 5x7 or 5x5 inches
*3* bring at least 4 or 5 copies of the image(s) you want to transfer
*4* if the orientation of your art matters, make a horizontal flip on the digital print you bring. The transfer process will create a reversed image of your art.
