Australian artist Jane Blundell, creator of deliciously vibrant watercolor paintings, author and illustrator is not just a trained teacher; she loves teaching! She is a member of the Australian Watercolour Institute and a keen participant in Urban and Plein Air sketching events. Jane started plein air sketching at age eleven. She joined Urban Sketchers in 2013 and presented two workshops at the 2015 Urban Sketchers Symposium in Singapore this July. Jane always works from life and and reports "I always will!" She runs weekly classes at home in Sydney as well as special workshops and demonstrations all over the world.

In this workshop, participants will experience insight into the vast range of available sketching materials and techniques. The workshop will 'go outside' for plein air painting where participants will work first-hand trying all or concentrating on their favorite applications: urban, travel or journal sketching. Jane will help participants set up their kits to serve individual sketching purposes and show how these kits can be used successfully.

Daniel Smith is located in Seattle's Industrial district. Our parking area sits under an overpass bridge built to route car traffic over a rail yard. The location is not 'picturesque countryside.' However, the urban shapes and structure-bent sunlight offers wonderful opportunity to interpret shadow, perspective and all the drama Seattle weather provides. Please check back to this site. If field trips are added to the workshop itinerary (participants are responsible for their transportation and conveyance), details will be posted here. Download the supply list.

  1. I'll be attending this workshop. I'll be attending the Tue-Wed workshop and can bring 3 extra stools for those who don't have them.
