August 2012 Schedule of Artist Workshops at the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store

Here is our schedule for Artist Workshops for August 2012 at the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store. These are usually 4 to 5 hour long "Hands On" workshops with the instructors demonstrating and teaching various art techniques. You will be creating during the workshop as you learn. These workshops have a fee, a list of supplies to bring to work with, and require registration. Space is limited, so please register early! Artist Workshops for August 2012

COLORED PENCIL: "Capturing Radiant Flowers With Colored Pencil" with Gary Greene

In this all-day workshop, students will learn how to paint realistic flowers with colored pencils, using the underpainting and burnishing techniques as featured in Gary’s North Light book; “Capturing Radiant Flowers With Colored Pencil”. Step-by-step printed notes, guidelines and easy to understand demonstrations every step of the way make this class an exciting, student-friendly class. Some colored pencil experience is recommended for this class. Students under 16 years old admitted only with prior approval.

This is a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals for impressionistic figure painting from a highly respected artist and instructor. Learn the relationship between color and temperature as you develop a solid painting foundation. Individual instruction while working directly from the nude figure. This class is a must for artists (working in most mediums) of all levels interested in improving their figure painting abilities.

Always wanted to try acrylics but were afraid of the cost and complexity? Acrylics aren't as costly or complex as you might think. In this workshop, fun is the word - and you don't have to know how to draw to paint! You'll learn how to: set up your workspace for painting, mix colors, create line art, and paint directly from photos without drawing. This is designed to be a fun workshop to get you started painting, at the end of the workshop you‘ll have the confidence to take your acrylic painting to the next level, and have two finished paintings!

Always wanted to paint with Oils but didn’t know where to start? Learn how in this workshop! You’ll start with basic supply list and learn about your paints, brushes and other materials. How to set up, mix paints and medium, how to transfer an image to paint without needing to draw (or transfer your own drawing) paint with your oils, and clean up when you are done. In the workshop you will paint a simple painting while using all your new tools, and leave knowing the basics of painting with oils and a painting!

In this two day workshop Ron will demonstrate his technique and show you how to capture the essence of your vacation experience in a loose watercolor painting. This class will focus on simplifying shapes, emphasizing values and capturing the feel of your subject matter with loose exciting brushstrokes.
Ron uses his sketchbook extensively to help simplify his composition and recommends students bring a sketchbook to class. Each student will be encouraged to paint 3 to 4 half sheet paintings over the two day workshop (or as large as they feel comfortable).
So pull out those photos from London, Paris, Rome or wherever you spent that dream vacation and let’s turn them into some great paintings!
