Patsy Surh O’Connell will be demonstrating how she uses DANIEL SMITH Walnut Ink, and combines it with traditional Sumi painting to create a painting with a softer, more aged appearance than traditional black ink does.

For the past 7 years, Patsy has been painting with liquefied Chinese ink, and found it to be a joy to use with rice paper. She especially enjoys applying black ink shades on white rice paper that can translate all of the value scale. She has wanted her paintings to have the patina of age, so she experimented with the new DANIEL SMITH Walnut ink. Voila! She was able to apply traditional Chinese ink in an antique look to express the aged appearance of traditional Asian art.

Patsy Surh O’Connell has been using watercolor for over 30 years, and teaches with that medium.
