WATERCOLOR: How to Glaze with Watercolors with Kay Barnes
Saturday, April 28th, 2012
What is a glaze? Glazes of watercolor are thin transparent applications of paint typically laid over previous washes which have been allowed to dry completely. Kay also use a glazing technique on wet paper. The resulting image has tremendous depth and a radiant life like quality. Color and color intensity greatly affect a painting both in planning stages as well as during the creative process. Glazing is also used to establish light, atmosphere, dominance of color and temperature, and to build form, depth and values. This workshop will explore many ways to use and apply glazes. This process of selecting the colors, values, mixtures and temperatures before the actual paint application is a valuable tool in the whole painting process. It helps take the fear out of making some of these important decisions and paint with greater confidence and authority.
