Here is our schedule for FREE Art Demos for February 2012 at the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store. These are usually 1 hour long with the instructors demonstrating various art techniques, basic "how to" for a particular medium or how the artists do different art processes. You can learn a lot coming to these, and they are a great way to get inspired and get your creative juices flowing - for FREE!

Here is our schedule for Artist Workshops for February 2012 at the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store. These are usually 4 to 5 hour long "Hands On" workshops with the instructors demonstrating and teaching various art techniques. You will be creating during the workshop as you learn. These workshops have a fee, a list of supplies to bring to work with, and require registration. Please regiester early to be sure of a spot in the workshop, and to make sure workshops are not cancelled due to low enrollment. To Register, please call the Seattle Store at: 206-223-9599.

"Experience the contagious enthusiasm and passion Stella Canfield portrays in her watercolors.  Stella's art is filled with color, light and energy derived from her deep love for people and nature. She believes that art is a way of emotional communication and infuses her students' work with that energy and life. The class will explore design, color choices, different subjects and learn skills to call the "Muse" through daily demonstrations and discussions.
Students will spend the majority of the day working on subjects of their choice while getting continuous one-on-one feedback from Stella. Stella spends only three months on teaching in the USA.

Ann will show exactly what is needed to make glass appear transparent, shiny and beautiful. Believable glass can be painted by everyone. MONOTYPES: Intro to The Painterly Print with April Richardson

Experiment with this spontaneous and painterly method of printmaking combined with painting and collage to create mixed media artwork. Each monotype is a unique print, and the plate can be used over and over. Students will learn additive, subtractive, and drawing transfer techniques. Working with small plates, water-soluble inks, and a portable etching press, artists will explore the materials and tools to produce a series of monotypes. Beginning and experienced artists enjoy this medium.

Follow her direct approach to painting scenes that recall days at the beach, a rocky shoreline, or a stormy sea. Cheryl explains a number of basic watercolor techniques as well as methods for creating special effects as she demonstrates how to develop a painting step by step. You will also learn how to paint essential seascape elements, such as skies, rocks, sand, and even sea birds. Additional tips explore watercolor painting materials and color theory so that you use the watercolor medium to its fullest potential.

 Marianne is nuts about our new DANIEL SMITH Walnut Ink, and believes that Walnut Ink is one the most underrated and under-utilized (while being one of the most versatile) tools in an artist’s studio. During the demo Marianne will demonstrate D.S. Walnut Ink as a drawing medium alone, with water color (both tube and stick) and, if time permits with acrylic gesso and mediums. The second session will be a continuation of the first session, not a repeat, so you may want to plan on attending both the 12 pm and 2 pm demos.

You will get to try your hand at painting on silk using a hoop in the “hands on” portion of this FREE demo! Get ideas and learn some great techniques to make beautiful holiday gifts. A limited number of hoops will be provided on a first come, first served basis for attendees.  Please plan to arrive early!
