January 2012 Schedule of Artist Workshops at the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store

Here is our schedule for Artist Workshops for January 2012 at the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store. These are usually 4 to 5 hour long "Hands On" workshops with the instructors demonstrating and teaching various art techniques. You will be creating during the workshop as you learn. These workshops have a fee, a list of supplies to bring to work with, and require registration. Please regiester early to be sure of a spot in the workshop, and to make sure workshops are not cancelled due to low enrollment. To Register, please call the Seattle Store at: 206-223-9599.

Do you love drawings? Do you want to draw what you love? Here is an opportunity to learn and practice the basics of drawing – or improve your drawing skills – in a supportive class environment.  Mary Shea teaches a drawing class for adults that is appropriate for beginners as well as people with some drawing experience who want additional instruction and practice. Every week there are different exercises focusing on the basic drawing elements: line, value, shape, space, and fun.

WATERCOLOR: Painting Northwest Seascapes with Cheryl Hoople

Using a wonderfully fresh, luminous painting style, watercolorist Cheryl Hoople shows you how to add movement, contrast, and a range of tonal values to create a dynamic Northwest seascape. Follow her direct approach to painting scenes that recall days at the beach, a rocky shoreline, or a stormy sea. Cheryl explains a number of basic watercolor techniques as well as methods for creating special effects as she demonstrates how to develop a painting step by step. You will also learn how to paint essential seascape elements, such as skies, rocks, sand, and even sea birds. Additional tips explore watercolor painting materials and color theory so that you use the watercolor medium to its fullest potential.

Watercolor: Travel Journal with Water Media, including Pens, Waterbrushes, Walnut Ink and Watercolor with Molly Hashimoto

Learn an entire repertoire of watercolor techniques to use while traveling, including ways to keep your kit lightweight and portable. We will use a variety of inexpensive materials, almost all of them water-based, discuss types of journals, learn wash and brush techniques, cover landscape and quick tips on managing perspective on architectural subjects. Participants are encouraged to bring their own photos.
