Painting Landscapes & Light using Pastels with Jerry Baldwin: FREE Art Demo at DANIEL SMITH Art Supply Store

This Sunday, April 11th, 2010, the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Art Supply Store will have a FREE Art Demonstration with Artist Jerry Baldwin on "Painting Landscapes and Light with Pastels" the "emphasis is on color relationship and balance of color and values."
"Pastel is becoming a very popular media to work with [and] any one who has a yen to paint would be interested in at least knowing how to use it." "It is a very flexible media and can be used with other media successfully." You can read a blog post on a Pastel demo Jerry did previously by clicking on the link.
In describing the demo, Jerry has written: "I will be demonstrating pastel painting from beginning to end. I will show how to develop a painting from sketches and or photos. My approach varies depending on the subject. I often use a watercolor wash: on the paper before I start. I use Wallis paper which is a sanded paper and can take a lot of abuse.I will discuss the use of various pastels and how to use the hardest to the softest brands. The four brands I use are Nupastel (very hard), Rembrandt Pastels (semi-soft), Sennelier Pastels (semi-soft), and Unison Pastels (very soft). These give me a range of color and softness."
If after the FREE demo you decide to try Pastel Painting yourself, a list of supplies Jerry suggests; "you buy a box of Rembrandt or Sennelier. A box of 48 or more will give you a good range of color. You can add to the box. Get a color chart of all four brands. It will help you choose new colors. If you are going to buy individual colors use the color wheel: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.. Two or three of each color plus white and black will give you a wide range."
