Panting Birds with Acrylic and Texture Mediums with Cheryl Long

Cheryl Long will be demonstrating Painting Birds with Acrylics and Texture Mediums this Friday, April 2nd, at a FREE Demo 3:30pm to 6pm at the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store.

"The beauty of acrylics is their ultimate versatility". Cheryl will show how to start..."a painting using acrylic in a transparent way, and completing it with acrylic and gel mediums to achieve texture". Cheryl will also talk about: "Breaking the fear and apprehension barrier of white paper can be a life changing experience. Learning to trade anxiety and apprehension for fun and relaxation while painting is worth an hour any day. The take away is part technical, and part emotional."

"Most people love birds. They take us out of ourselves and for a moment we sail in the air with them. Owls are especially mysterious, with centuries of lore surrounding them. I encourage people to paint subjects that they find intensely interesting. After years of instructing students, I am amazed at the jump in their ability when they choose a subject that really does it for them."

"I will talk about the value of art as a way to relax and enjoy our lives. Along the way you will see Daniel Smith Acrylics used transparently to initiate a painting and then with more body and specific texture to describe feathers and bark. A few Daniel Smith colors that will be used in the demo include a palette of Quinacrindone Burnt Orange, Alizarin Crimson, Thalo Blue (RS) Burnt Sienna, Quin Gold, Cerulean Blue, Nickle Azo Yellow, Titanium White. I will be painting with Daniel Smith Platinum Series 23 Synthetic Multi-Media Brushes....on 300# Cold Press Richeson Watercolor Paper."

Please Join Us for a Special FREE Presentation on Canson Infinity Digital Art Papers!

This Saturday, March 20th 11am to 1pm, we have a Special FREE Presentation with our Canson Expert Rep. who will be using an Inkjet printer and printing images on the Canson Infinity Digital Art Papers.

Canson Infinity Digital Fine Art Papers FREE Presentation
Saturday, March 20th 11am to 1pm

Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store

Come and learn how to print your Artwork on these Fine Art Papers for digital printing. Our Rep. will be talking about the features of the different papers, showing examples, and give tips on how to photograph your work to make the best images. There will be a printer so you will be able to see the Digital Art Reproductions made at the demo and ask questions.

If you have been thinking about reproducing your work Digitally and haven't quite known how to go about it, then this will be a great introduction for you to find out, and ask the questions you have been wondering about!

When you use these Digital Art papers you are using the SAME paper that Canson has been making for years, sometimes hundreds of years (the original company began making paper in 1492) for Artists. So the Digital Arches Aquarelle Rag is the same as the watercolor paper and so on. The Canson Infinity comes in:
Canson Infinity Arches Aquarelle Rag: (Watercolor)
Canson Infinity Montval Aquarelle: (Watercolor)
Canson Infinity BFK Rives: (The best selling printmaking paper is now available for digital reproductions).
Canson Infinity Canson Edition Etching Rag: (Printmaking)
Canson Infinity Canson Mi-Teintes: (This is the only inkjet pastel paper).
Canson Infinity Rag Photographique:
There is even a variety pack called the Infinity Discovery Pack so you can try out all of the above types in 8.5×11.

Deborah Stachowic Demonstrates "Acrylic: Figures in Abstract"

Special FREE Friday demo with Deborah Stachowic. Deborah will be demonstrating abstraction techniques & processes using Acrylic Paints with her "Acrylic: Figures in Abstract" demo.

This FREE demo will be Friday March 19th from 3:30 to 6pm at the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store.

Deborah will be sharing her techniques/processes for developing an abstract approach to painting, much different from her precise watercolor approach she uses with her large watercolor paintings. "With watercolor, Deborah has her paintings sketched and thought out, and are very controlled. However, when painting in Acrylic, she finds it to be very freeing and that it allows her spontaneous side to develop."

This demo will help show you ways to free up your painting approach and develop your "abstraction muscles"! Deborah will show you ideas to loosen you up for painting, and take advantage of what happens spontaneously on your paper when you use those techniques. This is a good way to get yourself "unstuck" creatively.

Saturday, March 20th, 11am and 1:45pm the Seattle DANIEL SMITH Store will also have Deborah at another FREE demo for her "Oversized Dramatic Flowers" in Watercolor. You can read a blog post about a similar demo Deborah did called "Painting Dramatic Reds". to get an idea of what the demo is about, and what you can learn.
